Ever since Federation, Australia has consistently played the role of a glorified military outpost for Western imperialist powers; first the British Empire, now the American Empire. The result of this has been our young men being deployed to fight in foreign wars in which the Australian people have no stake, and coming back traumatised, incapacitated, or worse, coming back in a coffin, or not at all. Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and indeed, even the First World War, were all wars in which we had no stake, yet obediently followed foreign empires into at the expense of Australian lives.

Since the Hawke-Keating Labor government facilitated sweeping neoliberal reforms in the 1980s and onwards which brought an end to the Keynesian era in Australia, we have also been ensnared in the grip of globalist institutions which have compromised Australia’s national sovereignty, hollowed out our economy, and left the Australian people demoralised and wanting change.

Australian foreign policy up until now has been one of a sub-imperial power; serving the role of a regional deputy sheriff in the Pacific for the interests of American imperialism, while pursuing regional imperialism in the South Pacific, exploiting our Pacific Island neighbours, which has led Pacific Island nations to view Australia as an unreliable and untrustworthy partner, driving them towards China.

Today, the world is undergoing a fundamental geopolitical transformation, the most fundamental since the bourgeois revolutions of Europe placed the West back at the helm of the global order after centuries of being eclipsed by the East following the fall of the Roman Empire. The Western unipolar global order is being slowly but surely replaced with a multipolar global order characterised by regional power blocs.

Despite the opportunity which Australia is provided with by this change, our political class and comprador oligarchy have chosen to follow the path of managed decline and demise by clinging to the declining unipolar status quo. This path offers us nothing but more harm and suffering.

The Eureka Party believes it is well past time that Australia take control of its own destiny and declare independence, not just on paper by abolishing constitutional monarchy, but in practice by proclaiming independent, sovereign foreign policy in the interests of the Australian people, not foreign powers and international institutions. It is also time to end Australia’s own imperialist intervention in the South Pacific and respect the sovereignty of our neighbours.
