The mainstream media has an interest in dividing the Australian people, feeding us antagonistic and polarising narratives to turn father against son, neighbour against neighbour, and coworker against coworker. It’s time to make a change.

Mandatory Balance for Mainstream TV News

The Eureka Party supports reforms enforcing neutrality and balance on mainstream TV news networks, including public networks like the ABC and SBS, to show diverse perspectives and decrease political polarisation and division.

This does not mean enforced centrism or government-approved truth. It means that broadcasters holding public licences must represent the genuine spectrum of political opinion in Australian society, not merely the range of opinions acceptable to their owners and advertisers. If a network gives airtime to one end of the political spectrum, it must offer comparable airtime to the other.

The Eureka Party maintains a commitment to full freedom of the press for small and independent media outlets.

Cross-Media Ownership Reform

The Eureka Party supports Gerard Rennick’s proposed cross-media ownership reform, limiting big players to owning only two of the three major mediums (TV, radio and print).

Foreign Ownership Restrictions on Mass Media

The Eureka Party supports banning foreign shareholders from holding more than a 20% stake in major media corporations operating in Australia, whether TV and radio networks or print publications.

Abolish the Office of the e-Safety Commissioner

The Office of the e-Safety Commissioner represents a dangerous concentration of censorship power in the hands of an unelected bureaucrat, operating as a de facto digital censor with the authority to compel the removal of content and demand user data from platforms without judicial oversight.

Its functions regarding actual criminal conduct (child exploitation, threats of violence) are already within the jurisdiction of the Australian Federal Police and state police forces, subject to judicial warrant. Its functions regarding "harmful content" are an exercise in paternalistic overreach that treats adults as children and substitutes bureaucratic judgement for individual and community responsibility.

The Eureka Party supports the abolition of the Office of the e-Safety Commissioner, and the redirection of its budget towards digital literacy education.
