Native Title Reform

Currently, Australia’s Native Title system for Indigenous Australians operates by creating Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs) to manage native title claims, many of which are captured by mining companies or state agencies, and accountable to ASIC regulators, not to the community or to the tribes themselves.

The Eureka Party supports reforming Australia’s native title system to replace PBCs with direct democratic Tribal Councils consisting of the Traditional Owners themselves to manage native title lands, and the removal of state veto powers to give Traditional Owners more freedom over the use of their lands, along with the granting of inalienable title deeds to Tribal Councils for native title lands.

Repatriation and Reburial of Indigenous Ancestors

The Eureka Party supports the repatriation of Indigenous ancestor remains, items and sacred objects to be reburied by their respective tribes, including lobbying for the return of remains and objects held in foreign museums.

Preserve and Promote Indigenous Language, Culture & Art

The Eureka Party supports the preservation and promotion of indigenous languages, culture and art and the ending of the slow-rolling elimination of indigenous heritage that has been perpetrated by consecutive governments since Federation.
